Pack 418 Operations
Below you will find all the “business stuff” of our Pack. Please remember it takes many, many volunteers for a Cub Scout Pack to run smoothly and all your leaders ARE volunteers. We’d love to have every parent involved in our Pack’s leadership. Contact our Committee Chair at sonya.rhodes@pack418.org if you want to donate “just one hour a week” to help these boys grow into honorable Scouts.

Scouting Information
The “Cubbing Program” was introduced by the Boy Scouts of America in 1930, but its roots go all the way back to the first days of Scouting. With the early success of the Boy Scouts for boys 12 and over, there was popular demand for a “younger boy program” for the siblings of Scouts. Because of concerns that a younger boy program might have a negative effect on the fledgling Boy Scouts program, the BSA was very careful in their dealings with this younger boy problem. (See Scouting Magazine article on “Cubbing” June 1930).
In 1916, Sir Robert Baden-Powell introduced the “Wolf Cub” program for younger boys. This program soon found its way to numerous communities in the Americas. There were also other younger boy organizations such as the “Little Lodge” of the “Woodcraft Indians,” the “Boy Pioneers,” and the “Boy Rangers.” Some BSA Boy Scout Troops were also sponsoring unofficial “Junior Troops” and “Cadet Corps.” Finally, after 20 years of Boy Scouting in America,
“Cubbing” was introduced! What has followed has been nothing short of phenomenal! Boasting over 50,000,000 members since its inception, no program in history has had the far ranging impact on American youth than Cubbing and Cub Scouting have!

Dens
Boys like to belong to a group. The den is the place where boys of the same age learn new skills and develop interests in new things. They have fun in weekly den meetings, during indoor and outdoor activities, and on field trips. As part of a small group of six to eight boys, they are able to learn sportsmanship and good citizenship. They learn how to get along with others. They learn how to do their best, not just for themselves but also for the den.
Tiger Cubs. The Tiger Cub program is for boys in first grade (or age 7) and their adult partners.
Wolf. The Wolf program is for boys who have completed first grade (or are age 8).
Bear. The Bear program is for boys who have completed second grade (or are age 9).
Webelos I. This program is for boys who have completed third grade (or are age 10).
Webelos II. This program is for boys who have completed fourth grade (or are age 11).

About Pack 418
Pack 418 provides an exciting program for boys in grades 1 through 5 (or ages 6 through 11). Our Pack consists of over 50 boys who attend school in the Wylie/Murphy/Parker area or are home schooled.
The purposes of Cub Scouting are physical fitness, character development, and citizenship. If you ask a boy, however, he will seldom offer these reasons for being a Cub Scout. Boys have one primary reason for joining Cub Scouts, and that is to have FUN! Our Pack provides boys (and their families) a lot of fun!
Our Pack meets one evening a month in the cafeteria at Groves Elementary School. Interested in joining us? Contact us at feedback@pack418.org to get more information about this fun and rewarding program!
Pack Structure and Leadership
It takes many, many volunteers for a Cub Scout Pack to run smoothly. See Pack Organization Chart for the structure of a typical pack and Pack Committee to see who in our pack fills those roles. Besides the leaders who work directly with the boys in the dens, we have many behind-the-scene positions to fill. Contact us at feedback@pack418.org if you want to donate “just one hour a week” to help these boys grow into honorable Scouts.
Scouting is a year-round program. If you are new to scouting, take a few moments to browse our wonderful website to learn more about scouting. If you have any questions or are interested in joining Cub Scouts, just let the Cubmaster know at Cubmaster@Pack418.org. |
